Do I need a lot of experience?
No. We're looking for people who have danced before to some extent, but you don't have to have a lot of experience. If you've danced at school, that's fine.
I'm a beginner. Can I join?
Unfortunately we're not set up to teach people who are knew to Mexican folklore dancing. We hope to start a "Beginners" group later in 2024.
Do I need any equipment?
No, please wear comfortable shoes and clothing for a dance/exercise session.
If you enjoy dancing a lot and want to eventually perform with us, for women you can buy folklore dance shoes. You can also get a rehearsal skirt ("falda de ensayo"). For men, you could also get folklore boots ("botines").
How much does it cost?
It's free to join the group. We only ask everyone to help pay for the rehearsal space. Depending on the number of people, it's £10-£15 per session.
Where do you rehearse?
In Hackney Wick, East London. Near the Oveground station.
How often and how long are the rehearsals?
We rehearse every 2 weeks. Rehearsals last 3 hours, and that includes breaks, warm up and cool down.
