“This is Mexico!” is an amateur folklore dance group created in 2022 and based in London, UK. It started with a bunch of Mexican friends living in the UK who wanted to remember and learn more of the Regional Mexican Folklore dances that we knew and loved since we were kids and that has brought us back all those traditions and joy that started growing even deeper after migrating to the UK. During our short but meaningful journey, we have rediscovered our love for our culture, our dances and their legacy. Whilst we understand that dance is an ever-evolving art, we continue to be amazed at its power of bringing all kinds of cultures together to speak and feast in a single language.
We aim to spread the joy and pride we feel when dressing up in our traditional costumes and getting out there to share a little piece of our beautiful country via our dance with our fellow Londoners and European residents.
We feel grateful for the opportunity to show a piece of the true spirit of Mexican Folklore, which was historically part of any family celebration with whatever resources and techniques available whilst keeping happiness, fraternity and heart at the centre of every dance whether a Huapango, Jarabe or Polka we perform.
Our mission is to express our traditions in alignment with group’s values and integrity whilst evolving with human arts and modern society. All ages, levels and nationalities are welcome to our Familia...This is Mexico!”
